Imagine a monitor that is really three monitors; that can be instantly configured for a video game, a face-to-face meeting, or a huddle-room presentation. Porticos was tasked with turning this vision into a working prototype.
All mechanical engineering was left to Porticos. Our lead engineer made multiple trips to Singapore to work with the client team and with OEM display manufacturers. He then traveled to China to oversee the fabrication and testing of the first prototype. While there were challenges and surprises, the prototype functioned elegantly and was a success.
This is an example of a product that never reached the market. The prototype facilitated focus groups, which revealed that the product would never command a high enough price to warrant continuation. A good reminder that technical success doesn’t guarantee product success.
