Shower Box Demonstrator

DuPont scientists developed a truly game-changing material: a conductive ink that can be stretched.  Showing the world what this means requires a dramatic demonstration; it is an “enabling technology” that makes it possible to integrate electronics into physical shapes in a way that is really unprecedented.

Dupont asked Porticos to design, perfect, and build a dozen “demonstrator” units that would show off the potential of this technology.

Project Includes:

  • Water Intrusion Protection
  • Cosmetic Design
  • Fluid Dynamics
  • Sheet Metal
  • Electronic Control
  • Keypad
  • Thermoforming
  • Conductive Ink
  • Prototyping
  • LED Illumination
  • Surface Modeling
  • User Interface
  • Power Supply
  • Supply Chain
  • Fabrication
  • New Product Design

Testing the Limits

Porticos took it to the limit; literally.  Our engineers figured out just how far the material would stretch, then designed a wavy, almost organic capacitive touch panel.  Then they integrated that panel into a surface that would be continuously showered with water. They made it possible to touch the panel, through the falling water, to control lights within an attractive portable enclosure.  Take a look at the video below to see how it all works together.

In addition to cosmetic, ergonomic, and functional design, Porticos also managed supply-chain and performed all fabrication and testing.  All twelve units were delivered, on schedule, in 100% working order.
