A long-time client who specializes in vibration control envisioned a novel means of accommodating real-time changes in load eccentricity. Implementing it came with a challenge; a means of applying a ring-shaped assembly to a shaft without access to either end of that shaft.

Engineering Solution

The solution was a “split ring” system that could be built around, and clamped to, a shaft.  High centrifugal and dynamic loads were anticipated, so Porticos performed a series of simulations to determine what combination of materials, geometry, and fasteners would accommodate every load.  Results were good, and Porticos has since participated in several other vibration-mitigation projects with the same client.
